We are a coalition of individuals and groups opposed to the SNWA water grab – a project that could desolate a vast swath of eastern Nevada. We are committed to serious action to stop the pipeline.
SNWA: Southern Nevada Water Authority – utility company for the Las Vegas Valley.
Their Plan: To extract billions of gallons of water from a series of remote, beautiful valleys along the eastern edge of Nevada.
Their Motivation: To make millions and even billions for real estate speculators, developers, construction companies, and massive corporations (this project will not benefit the average Las Vegas resident, who will foot the bill – to the tune of $10,000 per person – man, woman, and child – over the course of 30 years.
The Consequences: Removing this groundwater would destroy the livelihoods of ranchers and small farmers in this area, destroy hunting and gathering as well as sacred sites for Goshute, Shoshone, and Paiute peoples, destroy or impact half a dozen wilderness areas, Great Basin National Park, and the best Elk habitat in Nevada.
